Transitioning to
Fresh Feeding

Gently, properly, and with support

If your dog has struggled with food before...
loose stools, itching, sensitivities, or just not thriving -
you're not alone.

And you're not doing anything wrong.

We've built this guide for dogs exactly like yours.

"We tried fresh food before... and it didn't go well."

Sound familiar?

Diarrhoea during transition.
"Complete" meals that didn't feel right.
Food so processed you couldn't recognise a single ingredient.
Being told to just "push through it".

For sensitive dogs, that approach doesn't work.

And it's not how we do things.

Why Embark Feeds Differently

Most fresh foods are:

  • Finely minced
  • Uniform
  • Built for convenience, not digestion

We take a different approach.

  • Visible, whole ingredients you can recognise
  • Chunked textures to support natural digestion
  • Small-batch, made to order meals
  • Customisation for sensitivities.

It's not that fresh feeding didn't work

It just wasn't introduced in a way your dog could tolerate.

Sensitive dogs don't need more food.

They need:

Simpler inputs
Slower transitions
Less overwhelm on the gut

The Embark
Transition
Method

We don't rush this.
We rebuild from the ground up.

Start Lower Than You Think

Begin with:

25% Embark / 75% current food

Hold here for 3-5 days (or longer)

-> Do not increase until stools are firm and consistent

Stabilise Before Progression

If stools loosen:

  • Pause
  • Or step back slightly

This is feedback, not failure

Keep It Simple

In the beginning:

  • Stick to consistent proteins
  • Avoid adding extras or treats
  • Feed at regular times

We prioritise calm digestion over variety

For Sensitive dogs

For Dogs with Sensitive Skin + Gut

We start with:

  • Lower organ content initially
    (less richness)
  • Simple, well-tolerated proteins
    (turkey, pork, beef)
  • Gentle, non-cruciferous vegetables
    (pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot, zucchini)
  • Avoid common triggers like chicken

Once stable, we gradually:

  • Begin to reintroduce variety
  • Increase nutritional richness
  • Build long-term gut health

What to Expect

What's Normal

Mild changes in stool during transition

Improvements in skin, energy, and digestion follow consistency

Timeline

True gut adaptation takes 2-4 weeks

We're not chasing quick fixes.
We're building a system to support long-term health.

You're not guessing anymore.
