Our Daycare Difference
We do things differently at Embark Dog Co.
Our philosophy to provide Life Nourishment as Nature Intended, guides all of our intentions at The Paddocks and all interactions with your dog.
-
Natural Space
Dog's are natural animals and being outdoors, immersed in nature is not only beneficial, but necessary for your dog's health, wellness and happiness. The Paddocks provides the best space for safe natural play.
-
Group Rest
To promote your dog's ability to calm & settle within a group setting, rest is encouraged and practised in a group setting, occurring intermittently throughout the day. We do not crate for rest time.
-
Home Collection
Find my suburbWe collect and return your dog to and from your home before and after their daycare day at The Paddocks in our custom fit out, air-conditioned vans allowing you to enrich your dog's life without impacting on your busy daily schedule.
-
Pack Play
We create our packs based on play styles and temperaments and keep these to around 15 dogs. The Paddocks offers 5 large play paddocks each approximately 1-acre in size with a variety of natural enrichment activities.
-
Community
The Paddocks has helped create a beautiful community which is so precious to us. Our intention is to continue to foster The Embark community culture with our new dogs and their pawrents / owners.

The Embark Culture
Like onions and parfait (everybody loves parfait!), The Paddocks has layers.
On the surface, The Paddocks is a fully fenced, nature-based, dog daycare where your dog will receive daily enrichment and exercise.
The next layer unfolds as your dog becomes a part of their day pack, forms friendships, plays, explores and socialises safely under the watchful eye of our kind, caring and fun daycare team. They return home to you relaxed, calm and ready for a quiet restful few post-paddocks days, quickly coming to learn the days of the week and are excited when the sun rises on daycare day.
Further in, we see and hear positive behaviour changes in dogs who may have had prior fears. Dogs who refuse to get into cars, soon jump straight into our daycare van on arrival. Dogs who may have been scared of other dogs while you were walking them, become more social, tolerant and comfortable with other dogs during encounters. Dogs who are scared of people, learn humans can be good and fun and kind and they begin to trust again. Dogs who don't know how to play due to mistreatment in their early life, watch other happy dogs playing and regain a spark and find the joy in play.
Toward the centre, The Paddocks has created a community of kind-hearted, caring people who love their dogs like the family they are and offers an opportunity for human connection.
We love chatting to you on pickup, even briefly as your super-excited dog eagerly drags us to the van. We love watching you say 'hello' to the other dogs already in the van and knowing them by name after watching them on our shared social pages. And we love hearing that you bumped into another daycare pawrent while you were out walking, because your dog's were daycare buddies and had to play, and you've now gained a human friendship too.
These layers unfold as trust is developed and this is a value we hold at our core.

Getting Started
What happens on the your dog's first day?

Pack Introduction
Our daycare is designed to integrate your dog into a play pack where they can play and explore happily. This is achieved when they feel safe in their environment.
To achieve this, a weekly attendance is recommended. We have found this to offer routine and continuity within packs for the best experience at The Paddocks. If weekly is not an option for you we have a limited number of fortnightly positions on offer. All attendees of The Paddocks require a minimum fortnightly attendance. We do not accept casual attendances.
On your dog's first day, they will be introduced to The Paddocks and their day pack slowly.
Upon arrival they will begin in our catch paddock, one of our smaller zones, whilst the existing daycare pack settle in another. This provides time for your dog to sniff and explore their entirely new environment at their own pace and for the regular day pack to run off their initial high-energy.
Our catch paddocks is visually connected to three separate paddocks which allows your dog to view the pack and watch the daycare interactions. Our staff will be assessing your dog's body language and signs they are settled and ready to interact with other dogs, at which time they will meet new dogs, rotationally, 1 at a time in the catch paddock, under constant supervision.
Once your dog appears comfortable and our staff determine it appropriate, your dog will be introduced to a small group of the regular pack to play. Their interaction will be closely monitored during this time.
Following successful small-group interaction, your dog will then join the full pack and continue to be monitored closely throughout their first day, allowing us to get to know them, their play style, temperament and cues.
The timeframe for integrating into the pack varies for each dog and is based on constant assessment during their first day. This process is important in developing trust and a feeling of safeness at The Paddocks. We will only progress your dog to the stage we determine them ready for based on their behaviour. Most dog's integrate into the full pack and are monitored closely within 1 - 2 hours on their first day.
Occasionally, some dogs may spend their first day with a small group of dogs only, who share their temperament and play style to ensure they are not overwhelmed or overstimulated or do not overwhelm or overstimulate other dogs within the pack.
We communicate openly and honestly with you regarding your dog and our assessment of them on their first day and may suggest alternate days for their attendance if we feel they may be better suited to another pack. This does not mean your dog has done something wrong or is not suited to daycare.
Like people, all dogs have individual personalities, varying energy, different likes and dislikes and variable tolerance levels. At The Paddocks, we are a small team and we work closely with our dogs each day and know each of them well. Some days we have a large number of high-energy working dogs who love to herd and chase, whereas other days we have dogs who like a more leisurely pace. Placing a boisterous, adolescent kelpie with a gentle, timid oodle will result in neither dog having their needs met; one wants to chase and play, the other wants to relax, explore and touch base for cuddles. Our recommendations will be provided with the best interest of your dog at heart and aim to match your dog with their new best pals so they thoroughly enjoy their time at The Paddocks.
We understand that your dog leaving for their first day of daycare can leave you feeling a little anxious. During their first day, we try to ease this for you by touching base with an update on how they are settling in via SMS. We provide regular daily updates via our social media pages through our posts and our stories. To stay up-to-date with all the fun at The Paddocks, be sure you're following us on Facebook and Instagram @embarkdogco
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
Weather
What happens if it is raining?
As an outdoor facility, we do need to work with our weather. While the forecast is handy, it is not always reliable. We review the forecast weather conditions for the week ahead and will communicate with you directly to advise of any cancellations. We try to reschedule for the same week where possible, however, this is not alway possible. We do not charge for any days that we cancel due to weather.
We continue to run daycare on days where rain is forecast to be minimal and passing. Daycare is cancelled on days where rain is forecast to be high and constant. A sun shower is fun for dogs and humans alike, but a torrential downpour is less enjoyable. In the event that torrential rain and storms arrive unexpectedly, we will pack up for the day and may drop your dogs home early.
What happens if it is really hot?
Our location is aptly named "windy hill" as when there is a slight breeze elsewhere, we get a big one! Combined with our large beautiful trees, dam, The Billabong and splash pools, there is almost always a way to stay cool.
Occasionally, however, some days are just too hot and for the health and safety of your dogs and our staff. We cancel daycare on days when the forecast temperature is 35-degrees Celsius or more and assess the days forecast between 30 & 35-degrees Celsius.
Food
Do I need to pack my dog lunch?
No. You do not need to send any food to daycare with your dog. On daycare days, simple feed your dog their regular meals. This may be breakfast, dinner or both.
If your dog experiences car sickness, we will advise and request to withhold their breakfast on daycare mornings to minimise upset.
You may find your dog's eating habits differ on daycare days with some dog's choosing to not eat their breakfast prior to daycare. There is generally no reason for concern with a display of this behaviour and your dog will most likely return home especially ready for dinner.
If your dog experiences continued food refusal, it is recommended to consult your vet.
Can I pack my dog their breakfast?
Yes. We are happy to take breakfast provided by you for your dog, separate them from the pack and provide their meal to them upon arrival.
It is common, however, that dogs show a disinterest in eating their packed meal due to the excitement and stimulation of the environment and other dogs at The Paddocks.
Please note, we do not have a fridge or ability to keep meals cold at daycare.
Do you provide food at Daycare?
No. We don't routinely provide meals for dogs at daycare.
I didn't feed my dog their breakfast, can you feed them at daycare?
We try our best to accommodate this. Depending on how much notice is provided, we may have the ability to stop by The Embark Raw Pantry and collect a meal for your dog to consume upon arrival at daycare. This is subject to meal availability, run scheduling and the notice provided and the cost of this meal will be invoiced to you.
Did my dog eat anything at daycare?
We often have training treats on hand we use to reward good behaviours and we utilise treats during snuffle enrichment activities.
Some dogs frequently consume grass and commonly dig and eat clay at The Paddocks.
Pick Up / Drop Home
Can I pick my dog up/drop my dog off?
No. Our setup does not facilitate owner drop off or pick up. Unlike other dog daycares, we do not have a physical office, our staff are constantly in The Paddocks with your dogs.
Our facility consists of fenced zones with full visibility internally and externally between paddocks. Having visitors on site is highly disruptive and results in high energy displays within the pack, excessive barking and is not conducive to the calm and safe environment we foster during daycare hours.
If you wish to view The Paddocks, this can be arranged via appointment outside of daycare hours.
Do I need to be home at drop off / pick up?
We require you to be home for the initial collection of your dog on their first daycare day. For most dogs this will be the first time we meet them and for the safety of our staff, we require an owner present at the property.
Following this, it is not necessary that you be home for collection or drop off. If you will be absent during these times, we ask that you notify us at their first collection so we can run through a procedure for accessing your home to collect your dog and returning them securely in the afternoon.
Some dogs are placed through a gate, into a secure yard, some homes have lock boxes and some owners provide us with a key to access locked gates and/or doors to collect and return dogs on the daycare days they are not home.
What time is pick up?
We collect dogs between 7:00am - 9:30am.
The time your dog is collected will depend upon their place on the collection run schedule which is often determined by their location.
Due to the pack continuity, we try to establish a routine run which is the same each fortnight and provides you with a more consistant pick up time.
This may vary, without notice, based on new dog's joining the collection run and/or unforseeable events causing delays.
What time is drop off?
We drop dogs home between 3:00pm - 5:30pm.
The time your dog is dropped home will depend upon their place on the run schedule which is often determined by their location.
Due to the pack continuity, we try to establish a routine run which is the same each fortnight and provides you with a more consistant drop home time.
This may vary, without notice, based on new dog's joining the drop home run and/or unforeseeable events causing delays.
Can I request a specific collection / drop off time?
You can request a collection / drop off time time and where we can, we will do our best to accommodate this, however, it is not always possible for us to fulfil these requests.

Attendance
Our dog daycare runs like a school in that having the right combination of dogs in their 'pack' or 'class' is a big priority. Matching play styles, temperaments and correctly introducing new dogs is important in maintaining a happy, safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees. Due to this, we only accept dogs who can attend daycare on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis.
Socialisation
All dogs wishing to attend The Paddocks must have had prior socialisation.
We do not accept dogs who:

Our vision is to provide a safe space for dogs to play, enjoy and be happy and for our staff to feel safe, happy and enjoy their work environment. For this to be achieved, dogs must be relaxed and feel safe. Some dogs will not suit the stimulation offered at The Paddocks. If you are unsure if your dog is suited to daycare, please get in touch with us via email hello@embarkdog.co to discuss further.
